404 is a project inspired largely by Caroline Criado-Perez’ Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men, a book that highlights the overwhelming number of adverse effects women endure as a result of gender bias in big data collection. The origin of “404” comes from the HTTP status code 404, which tells a web user that a page that they are trying to access is “not found” or “missing.” The campaign seeks to place a floodlight upon the historically endured gender imbalance driven by inaccurate data, 404 seeks to locate the “page unfound.”

The collection below highlights concepts for the campaign’s primary means of outreach: a monthly-issued book with a collection of quotes, data, and powerful imagery to highlight 404’s cause.
